Over the last two summers, I've taken the two stats courses meant to prepare future AP Stats teachers. Those courses were invaluable to me and gave me the confidence I needed to tackle a difficult subject. I would like to thank you for offering such a chance for people to extend their knowledge in the fields of statistics, and consequently provide them the adequate tools for better performance and sound achievements in their jobs and research.

As a SAS programmer, I believe I will continue to use SAS for data manipulation but will utilize R when running models and exploring large data sets. I took the course to get starting using R, thus I think this will help with my use of statistics in the future.

I really think these online courses are great. I need to know R to perform my job as I am a product manager for a software company that interacts with R. I am now able to understand R scripts and hopefully contribute some of my own. The instructor's videos were great.

Just hearing his voice made it more personal. This was my first ever web based course and I really enjoyed it although I had to work hard. I will be using this knowledge in my daily work. It was really interesting and useful. This was one of the best statistics. I'm basing this comment on the online active text and video components - very clear. Great support from Professor and Teaching Assistant.

Loved every single thing about this course and its content. My organization is slowly embracing predictive analytics outside of our environmental concerns, so this course contributes directly to strengthening my R toolkit. More and more medical students are submitting systematic reviews and associated meta-analyses, to meet research exposure requirements, in the Basic Sciences Programs of their medical school education, here in the Caribbean. The course provided me with a unique and much appreciated opportunity to learn much more about the technique, its underlying principles, and how to correctly apply the tool whenever evaluating a collection of primary studies.

Time and energies committed to the course have been very well spent. After trying to learn meta-analysis from various texts (e. It made the selection of fixed-effect or random-effects models much easier to understand, and the presentation of the math was very straightforward.

If I could write a book, I would want to do it this way. Each chapter was short and to the point. Not a lot of extras, but a sufficient number of worked examples to make it work.

The software is very easy to use, and I appreciate the continual improvement that seems to be made. You and your colleagues have done something incredible here. It will help me gain confidence with conducting data analysis using R.

I have tried a few R MOOCs in the past which helped me start out using R but I had not found a comprehensive intro to R that I could use more broadly - this course really succeeds with accomplishing that.

This course has given me a much better understanding of biostatistics and will allow me to gain more from my campus based studies. This course supplied a solid foundation for identifying statistical outliers in demand patterns for business planning purposes.

I much enjoyed your text mining course last year and plan to take the deep learning one - thanks for creating itThis course fundamentally deepened my understanding of statistics and studies.

I will certainly apply the knowledge gained as often as possible. Absolutely vital course for understanding basic epidemiology, studies and statistics. I would recommend that everyone get a copy of the textbook before class though.

You can stay within one sport or game or cross over into other sports and games. Silverstein, an assistant managing editor at CBS Sports, has been picking NFL games since 2002. Though he will take the occasional underdog, Silverstein often looks for value with the favorites, especially after sharp money comes in and lines fall below key numbers. This method allowed him to open the 2017 college football season 19-11-1 ATS after finishing the 2016 season picking gridiron games at a 62 percent clip.

He has a hot hand on NFL picks, too. In fact, he's on a 14-7, 67-percent run on selections. Now, he has two games to package as part of a teaser bet, shaving 6. Here's one we can tell you: Silverstein is big on a Patriots line of just -2. New England is on a quest to defend its Super Bowl championship, winners of seven in a row and tied with Pittsburgh atop the AFC at 9-2. Of the Patriots' nine victories, three came by eight points or less.

But they were all by three points or more. Buffalo ended a three-game losing streak by downing the fading Chiefs 16-10 in Kansas City. At 6-5, the Bills really need a win if they have any chance to challenge the Pats in the AFC East, and a victory puts them in a favorable position in the crowded playoff picture.

New England's offense has overwhelmed foes, ranking No.

Tom Brady is having another MVP year, leading the league in passing yards (3,374) with 26 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Asking any team to win on the road by two scores is a tough sell, but asking New England to win in Buffalo by a single field goal. That sounds pretty good. Silverstein also has a lot of confidence in an even bigger favorite he's dropping the spread for, and he's sharing that over at SportsLine.

So what is Silverstein's teaser play of the week. The researchers were interested in determining whether increased illumination would increase the productivity of the assembly line workers.

The researchers first measured the productivity in the plant, then modified the illumination in an area of the plant and checked if the changes in illumination affected productivity. It turned out that productivity indeed improved (under the experimental conditions). However, the study is heavily criticized today for errors in experimental procedures, specifically for the lack of a control group and blindness.

The Hawthorne effect refers to finding that an outcome (in this case, worker productivity) changed due to observation itself. Those in the Hawthorne study became more productive not because the lighting was changed but because they were being observed. This type of study typically uses a survey to collect observations about the area of interest and then performs statistical analysis. In this case, the researchers would collect observations of both smokers and non-smokers, perhaps through a cohort study, and then look for the number of cases of lung cancer in each group.

Various attempts have been made to produce a taxonomy of levels of measurement. The psychophysicist Stanley Smith Stevens defined nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio scales.

Nominal measurements do not have meaningful rank order among values, and permit any one-to-one transformation. Ordinal measurements have imprecise differences between consecutive values, but have a meaningful order to those values, and permit any order-preserving transformation. Interval measurements have meaningful distances between measurements defined, but the zero value is arbitrary (as in the case with longitude and temperature measurements in Celsius or Fahrenheit), and permit any linear transformation.

Ratio measurements have both a meaningful zero value and the distances between different measurements defined, and permit any rescaling transformation.

Because variables conforming only to nominal or ordinal measurements cannot be reasonably measured numerically, sometimes they are grouped together as categorical variables, whereas ratio and interval measurements are grouped together as quantitative variables, which can be either discrete or continuous, due to their numerical nature. Such distinctions can often be loosely correlated with data type in computer science, in that dichotomous categorical variables may be represented with the Boolean data type, polytomous categorical variables with arbitrarily assigned integers in the integral data type, and continuous variables with the real data type involving floating point computation.

But the mapping of computer science data types to statistical data types depends on which categorization of the latter is being implemented. Other categorizations have been proposed. Whether or not a transformation is sensible to contemplate depends on the question one is trying to answer" (Hand, 2004, p. The probability distribution of the statistic, though, may have unknown parameters. Commonly used estimators include sample mean, unbiased sample variance and sample covariance.

Widely used pivots include the z-score, the chi square statistic and Student's t-value. Between two estimators of a given parameter, the one with lower mean squared error is said to be more efficient. Furthermore, an estimator is said to be unbiased if its expected value is equal to the true value of the unknown parameter being estimated, and asymptotically unbiased if its expected value converges at the limit to the true value of such parameter. Other desirable properties for estimators include: UMVUE estimators that have the lowest variance for all possible values of the parameter to be estimated (this is usually an easier property to verify than efficiency) and consistent estimators which converges in probability to the true value of such parameter.

This still leaves the question of how to obtain estimators in a given situation and carry the computation, several methods have been proposed: the method of moments, the maximum likelihood method, the least squares method and the more recent method of estimating equations.

Interpretation of statistical information can often involve the development of a null hypothesis which is usually (but not necessarily) that no relationship exists among variables or that no change occurred over time. The null hypothesis, H0, asserts that the defendant is innocent, whereas the alternative hypothesis, H1, asserts that the defendant is guilty.

The indictment comes because of suspicion of the guilt. The H0 (status quo) stands in opposition to H1 and is maintained unless H1 is supported by evidence "beyond a reasonable doubt".Figured I'd book a tour, seemed easiest. Found Nordic Visitor and thought, "looks good. Nordic Visitor did everything. Booked my airport transfers, booked my hotels, provided tour guide, everything.

I literally just had to show up.

The tour group was nice and small, perfect. The tour guide was super knowledgeable and would provide lots of little tidbits of info. Part of the tour was to try and see the Northern Lights. Unfortunately, the weather was not cooperating the days we were on the tour. Well, on the last day, it was finally clear, so the tour guide called the office and got us all booked on a Northern Lights tour for that night.

We saw the most amazing Northern Lights. And it was all because the tour guide went the extra mile and got us on the tour.

Arris port forwarding

Thank you so much for being there and helping people to discover those incredible places around the Scandinavia. I've met so many great people and had such a splendid time, that I will never forget. My main purpose was to see the Northen Lights, but I've got so much more and everything was just beyond my expectations.

I would like to thank our Nordic Visitor agent Jennie Elofsson for a great assistance, she's been very helpful and super quick giving us all the answers we need. Also I would like to thank our amazing guides, who made our tour so very special and intimate: Emil and Jenny.

All guesthouses were very nice and friendly. They give us the possibillity to get in contact with islandic people which were very friendly and all spoke very good english.

Perfectly prepared tour with individual extension. The tour and preperation exceeds our expectation. For example the tour package included sun glasses for the solar eclipse which happened during our tour. Thanks for the wonderful experience Iceland. We will come back for sure.

Our trip gave us plenty to do while still leaving us time to relax and explore the city at our own pace. It was so nice to not have to worry about planning every day-- we just showed up where we were supposed to be at the time we were given and everything else was taken care of.

All of our tours and excursions were so much fun. We had great service everywhere we went. Iceland is a beautiful country and everyone that we met was so friendly and helpful. People were constantly going out of their way to help us. We loved every minute of our trip and we were so sad to leave. I would also like to thank Gudrun for the fabulous job she did planning our tour.

My husband and I are very careful travelers so we were constantly emailing her with questions and requests. She handled them all beautifully and was always prompt to return an answer.

We had one small hiccup with our driver during the big storm and she called me to tell me she had already arranged for someone else to drive us. She even helped us plan our wedding which would not have happened without her.PreviewsWatch Artists Sketch All Comics Latest Stories X-Men filmmakers look back at what went wrong San Diego Comic-Con has won its trademark lawsuit against Salt Lake Comic Con Jessica Jones is back on the job with new trailer and release date.
